Originating in Spain, sangria is the perfect drink for this summer weather. They say a glass of sangria has never been turned down. Ever. Ever, ever.
Criminally easy to make, its four simple ingredients can transform any outing or get-together with friends over the coming summer months.
We start with wine as the base; it can be a hearty red, or something lighter depending on your taste. White wine can be used instead, in which case it’s called sangria Blanca. You can also lighten up heavier reds by adding a bottle of white to the mix.
You can use almost any; Orange, lemon, lime, apple, peach, melon, berries, pineapple, grape, mango. Your imagination is the limit!
Sugar Spice and Everything Nice
A sweetener such as honey, sugar, or simple syrup, Add some fresh mint leaves, or cinnamon sticks for additional yum factor.
Lastly, you’ll need something bubbly like Seltzer, Sprite or 7Up.
Chop or slice your fruit into small cubes, then mix all ingredients except for carbonated sodas, leave in the fridge overnight, or at least for several hours to allow time for the fruit flavors to blend with the rest of the ingredients, mix in your bubbly factor, the ice is added as the drinks are poured.
Sangria is traditionally served with a wooden spoon, used to get fruit out of the bottom of the punchbowl or pitcher.
