Barkan Superieur Pinotage 2007

It's not just in South Africa anymore! Barkan Superieur Pinotage elevates this most intriguing grape (a genetic cross of Pinot Noir and Cinsault) to a rarified level of class and complexity. Deep ruby red/garnet in color, the nose is a fascinating combination of black cherry, mulberry and spices including clove and cardamom. The palate is smoky and savory as a great Pinotage should be, with overtones of coffee and blackcurrant. Full-bodied with voluptuous tannins, this is a new dimension in Israeli red wine and a triumph for Barkan winemakers Ed Salzberg and Irit Boxer-Shank.
